Tajikistan exported 990,000t of cement in the January-September period of 2020, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. Around 31 per cent of the cement produced in the country was exported in the 9M20, mainly to Uzbekistan (562,000t), Afghanistan (391,000t) and Kyrgyzstan (43,000t). Tajikistan’s Mohir Cement Co has announced plans to construct a new 0.6Mta cement plant in Jaloliddin Balkhi district, Khatlon. An estimated US$30m is expected to be spent on construction, according to the company’s draft investment agreement with the government of Tajikistan. Tajikistan exported 1.1Mt of cement to neighbouring countries in the first 10 months of 2018, an increase of 30 per cent compared to the year-ago period, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT). The Chzungtsai Mohir Cement cement plant has been officially opened by Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan, Asia Plus reports. The 1.2Mta plant is the second to be built in Yovon district, situated about 30km southeast of the capital, Dushanbe. According to the Tajikistan Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, a new 1.2Mta cement plant will be brought into operation in the Yovon district, Khatlon province, this month.
